The automotive industry has undergone some revolutionary changes in the past few decades. The integration of AI into these transmission systems have minimized the carbon footprint and provide value for money driving for the customer over the years.

Traditional Automatic Transmission – the starting point:

Popularly known as self-shifting transmission, this allows the vehicle to change gear ratios automatically.  This eliminates the need for the driver to intervene in gear change using the manual transmission gear stick and clutch plate. It is characterized by a torque converter system and a planetary gear system. Forerunners in automobile parts such as PATC have come up with some tried and tested variants of this transmission system. These innovative modifications have helped to enhance fuel efficiency and safety quotient for the driver and the environment as well.

Automated Manual Transmission (AMT):

This system is a healthy amalgamation of the hydraulic and electronic system of gear change. The electronic transmission uses an actuator that operates the clutch and gear. To bring back the joy of manual transmission, they can be reset back by the driver to the traditional stick shift system. This system is inspired by F1 vehicles and comes at a pocket-friendly price as well

Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT):

These transmission systems make use of belts or pulleys, instead of the planetary gear system. This streamlines gear shifting even further and helps to attain maximum RPM of the engine. This class of gearbox is further divided into Hydrostatic and Torodial CVTs

Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT):

It is considered to be the union of an automatic and manual transmission. Two separate shafts are used for gear changing, one for the odd numbered and one for the even numbered. This system can fluctuate between auto and manual modes effectively

Tiptronic Transmission (TT):

This auto transmission system functions just like a manual gearbox. The only difference is that it makes use of a torque converter instead of a clutch plate. The USP of this unit is that it has the option of overriding automatic mode with safety features inbuilt to prevent damage to the gearbox during the transition.
